An autoimmune condition characterized by INFLAMMATION of the LIMBIC SYSTEM, though other brain regions may also be affected. Patients usually present with severe short-term memory loss; however, confusion, psychiatric symptoms, and seizures may also occur. It may result from an underlying neoplasm (paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis) or be idiopathic.
