Note
A reversible form of cholestasis that typically occurs in the third trimester of pregnancy and frequently recurs in subsequent pregnancies. Patients present with PRURITIS; JAUNDICE increased serum bile salts, and abnormal liver enzyme levels. Symptoms resolve soon after delivery; some patients with may also be susceptible to oral contraceptive-induced cholestasis. Fetal complications may occur, including PLACENTAL INSUFFICIENCY; PREMATURE LABOR; FETAL DISTRESS, and intrauterine death . A heterozygous mutation in the ATP8B1 gene has been identified.
