Note: A condition that occurs when the temporomandibular joint becomes fused by bony or fibrous tissue. It can interfere with speech, nutrition, oral hygiene and the normal growth of the face and/or jaw. It generally occurs during the first and second decades of life, and may be caused by trauma or infection. It is also associated with certain INFLAMMATION conditions such as ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS; RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS; or PSORIASIS.
