A deficiency of both HUMORAL IMMUNITY and CELLULAR IMMUNITY, with a severe deficiency of IMMUNOGLOBULIN M. Patients cannot contain VIRAL INFECTIONS or BACTERIAL INFECTIONS, especially those caused by encapsulated extracellular pathogens such as STREPTOCOCCUS PNEUMONIAE.
